When You're Afraid...

God will often use a problem to coax you to seek His power. When you’re afraid, you can call on the promises of our loving Creator and take His hand.

If you read no further, I hope you give this some thought, as it’s the point of the article. In fact, seeking God is the point of everything—our whole existence, the whole Cosmic Conflict that Ellen G. White writes about.

Ideally, you already have a habit of reaching for God when crises hit. And you already have experiences where you’ve seen God working in your life so that you have a faith built on something concrete. Already you are one of His sheep who knows His voice.

If not, it isn’t too late. God is always waiting for us to seek Him, always giving us free will to accept or reject His love, affirm or deny His existence. Satan not only accuses God of being unloving, he also accuses God of being a tyrant. But God promises you that if you seek Me, you will find Me[1], and if you draw near to God, He will draw near to you. Love is only genuine when it’s freely exchanged.

Maybe that’s why Mrs. White talks so much about the Sabbath as an issue of “freedom of conscience” in the Last Days. Sabbath—or rather, acknowledging God and His goodness, holding a relationship with Him, hearing His voice, following His ways—what we call worship—will be forbidden. Satan has always worked to tear us away from God any way he can. In the Last Days, he will desperately pull out all the stops. He seems to be working extra hard now, stirring up anger and hatred, doubt and uncertainty, and so many forms of fear.

In times like these, who do you look to for your answers?

Here’s the point of it all again: God will often use a problem to coax you to seek His power. When you’re afraid, you can call on the promises of our loving Creator and take His hand.

  • When you’re afraid, draw near[2].
  • When you don’t know what to do, keep your eyes on Him[3].
  • When you don’t know what to believe, listen to His voice[4].
  • When the storm clouds gather, praise God, because He’s about to reveal His power[5].
  • When you feel alone or rejected or threatened or that all hope is lost, then—then recall all that the Lord has done and His wonderful deeds[6].

Take the kind of divine courage that comes through faith, and remember that the world is passing away along with its distracting desires, and that those who are near to God will dwell with him forever[7].

Here's a list of 25 Promises that God will take care of us. You can print it off and put it somewhere that will regularly remind you - God loves YOU.
